Vision

Buying a game should mean owning it.

Digital stores sell a licence, not a copy. A 2024 California law even forced a major store to stop using the word “sell” at checkout. Players cannot resell, lend or keep what they pay for, and when a title leaves a catalogue it can simply disappear.

Studios lose out too. Once the sale is made, that copy never earns anything again.

The disc got it right. You owned it, you could sell it, and nobody could take it back. Fractalya brings that model back in digital form, with limited editions and a resale market designed with studios in mind.

Workflow

From your catalogue to ongoing revenue.

Four steps. You make the decisions, we take care of the technology.
  1. 01

    Choose your edition

For each game you decide how many copies exist and, if you like, a share of rare variants with special cover art. The supply is fixed and visible to everyone.

  2. 02

    Players buy and own

Players pay in regular currency and receive a copy that is truly theirs. They can play it, gift it, keep it or collect it. No licence fine print.

  3. 03

    Resale on your terms

Players can resell their copy to other players. You can keep resale closed for a while, and you earn your royalty on every resale, paid with your regular payouts.

  4. 04

    We handle the integration

Our technical team connects your game so it recognises who owns a copy. Your game stays on Steam, itch.io or your own site exactly as it is today.

New value

Bring new value to your games.

See how a studio like yours can benefit from a marketplace built around ownership.
  • New revenue streams

Earn on the first sale and a royalty on every resale that follows. An older title with a loyal player base can start earning again.

  • More engaged players

Limited editions and rare variants give players a reason to collect, trade and talk about your game.

  • Flexible integration

Fractalya sits beside Steam, itch.io or your own store. Nothing about how you sell today has to change.

  • Rules everyone can see

Supply, resale limits and royalty are fixed when the game is created and shown to buyers before they pay.

Control

You set the rules. Everyone can see them.

A resale market should protect your launch, not undermine it. Decide when players can start trading. Every resale then pays you a royalty, and buyers see the rules before they pay.
  • Resale locks. Keep resale closed until a date, or until a share of the edition has sold.
  • Capped supply. You choose the number of copies, and it can never be increased.
  • Your royalty. Every resale pays you a royalty under Fractalya's standard terms, the same for every studio.
  • Built in. The rules live in the copy itself, so they hold wherever it is traded.

Try it: one edition, 100 copies (illustration)

Resale is locked. 25% more of the edition must sell first.

Rarity, optional

Same game. Every copy a little different.

You can turn any game into a collectible drop. Choose how many cover variants exist and what share of the edition each one gets. When a player buys, the copy they receive is drawn at random, so two buyers of the same game can end up with different art.

Collectors look for the rare ones, so rare and legendary copies tend to resell for more. Your royalty is a share of every resale, which means a higher resale price pays you more. Gameplay is identical for everyone, and you decide whether to use rarity at all.

  • You set the odds. Tiers and percentages are yours, and they are shown to buyers before they pay.
  • Rarity pays you back. Sought-after copies resell at higher prices, and you earn your royalty on each of those sales.

Why Fractalya

The current landscape, and our answer.

Two models dominate today. Each leaves something on the table for players or for studios.
  • Licence model

    Traditional platforms

    What it offers

Stores like Steam sell games under an end user licence. Players get permission to play, not ownership, and only within the limits of that licence.

    Key limitation

Players cannot resell or pass on their games, and studios earn nothing from a secondary market because none exists.

  • The ownership model

    Ownership model

    Fractalya

    What it offers

The freedom of owning a copy, with a market the studio can shape. Limited editions can be resold or gifted, within rules you set.

    Key benefit

Players truly own their games and can resell them. You keep control of the rules and earn a royalty on every resale.

  • Open model

    DRM-free platforms

    What it offers

Stores like GOG let players download, keep and install a game with no restrictions on copying or sharing.

    Key limitation

Great freedom for players, but once a game is out there it can be shared or resold without limit, with no revenue returning to the studio.

Technology

Technology you never have to think about.

Behind the scenes, every copy is a unique, verifiable record on a blockchain, so anyone can prove who owns it and nobody can duplicate or revoke it. That is its only job. Players see a normal store, and you see a normal partnership.

What Fractalya is

  • An additional channel next to Steam, itch.io and your own store
  • A home for limited editions, numbered copies and rare variants
  • Open about supply, rules and rarity before anyone buys
  • Open to any genre and any game engine

What it is not

  • Not a replacement for your current stores
  • Not play-to-earn: no in-game currency, no speculation
  • Not an art marketplace: games and game content only
  • Not a place where players need to learn new jargon

FAQ

Questions studios ask us.

Straight answers. If yours is missing, ask us directly.

What is the advantage of selling limited-edition digital games?

Limited editions give each copy a sense of value and rarity, which players love to collect and trade. For you, the benefit goes beyond the first sale: every resale on Fractalya pays you a royalty, so a game keeps working for you long after launch.

How do resales work?

A player who owns a copy can list it for sale to another player. The buyer pays in regular currency, the seller is credited, and the copy moves to its new owner. You receive your royalty on that sale with your periodic payout. Nobody involved needs to touch cryptocurrency.

Can I control the resale market for my game?

Yes. You can keep resale closed until a date you choose, or until a share of the edition has sold, for example 80%. The royalty on every resale follows the standard Fractalya terms, the same for every studio. These rules are shown to players before they buy and are enforced by the technology itself, not just by our terms.

Will resale cannibalise my new sales?

You are in charge of the balance. Resale locks protect your launch window, you set the price of new copies, and a capped edition with an active resale market can outperform an unlimited one with none. Fractalya is an extra channel, so your existing sales stay as they are.

What if players resell their copy outside Fractalya?

True ownership means they can, just like selling a disc to a friend. Any resale limits you set still apply, because they are built into the copy. Royalties on sales that happen outside Fractalya cannot be guaranteed, which is why we focus on making our own marketplace the most convenient place to trade.

Do players need to understand blockchain?

No. Players create an account, pay in regular currency and play. The ownership record works quietly in the background, like the engine of a car. Your studio does not need blockchain knowledge either.

What is rarity, and do I have to use it?

Rarity is an optional collectible layer. You can offer a share of the copies of a game as rare or legendary cover art variants and choose the percentages. Each buyer receives a copy drawn at random, so two buyers of the same game can get different copies. Rare copies tend to resell for more, and since your royalty is a share of each resale, a higher price means more for you. Gameplay is identical for everyone, and you can skip rarity entirely.

Does Fractalya replace Steam or itch.io?

No. Fractalya complements your existing channels. You keep selling where you sell today and use Fractalya to reach players who care about ownership and collecting.

What does it cost, and how does Fractalya earn?

We earn a commission on first sales, agreed with each studio, and a small fee on resales. We start with a pilot that carries no cost for you, so you can see how it works with a real game before committing more.

What does integration involve?

Our technical team works with you from setup to ongoing support. Your game checks that the player owns a copy, and we handle the rest. Plugins for popular game engines are planned to make this even faster. Your game can be built with any engine and in any genre.

Will players be able to rent games?

Rentals are planned for a later phase and are not part of the launch. Players would rent a copy for a set period while the owner keeps it, and the studio would earn a share of the fee.

Is Fractalya a crypto or play-to-earn project?

No. There is no token to buy, no in-game currency and no speculation. Blockchain is simply the infrastructure that proves who owns each copy. Fractalya is a distribution platform for games, nothing more exotic than that.
